Renewable Resources Making Strides In Energy Production
School children start to learn about them as early as 8 years old, because society feels they are that important to our future. We are seeing the negative effects that our current path is taking us, and we know something else must be done. Fossil fuels and other non-renewable resources are being ripped from Earth and polluting our planet. It is time for the changing tides to shift towards alternative energy and renewable resources.
What exactly are renewable resources? To put it in simple terms, they are a natural resource that never runs out because it constantly replenishes or grows back. Still a little confused? Think about the sun or the wind. Both are out there everyday. We can use their energy, yet they will still be there.
For centuries, society has utilized alternative energy and the energy they provide. Yet, when the industrial revolution hit, more power was needed, and we turned to non-renewable resources, such as fossil fuels, which allowed for more energy at one time. They are taken from the ground, never to be replaced. Not only will we eventually run out, it also has created a long term detrimental affect on out planet.
Renewable energy sources, such as geothermal or wind power, biomass energy, hydropower, and solar energy, are all alternate energy forms. After seeing what has happened to our planet using the traditional forms, many nations have really started to focus on the renewable energy system.
Solar power is just that, power from the sun. Great strides have been made in its use, from powering cars to providing energy to homes and businesses. Though it is a bit expensive in the initial implementation, the savings this renewable energy system provides afterwards are significant.
Hydropower is using water movement to create energy. Seeing as though the planet is made up of 70% water, it only seems natural to take advantage of what it can do to elevate the energy stresses throughout our nations. Dams are a great example of its technology at work.
Wind power, like solar, is relatively self explanatory. For centuries people have used the power of the wind to drive them over water and grind their grain with the use of windmills. Now, scientists and engineers have created wind turbines, that are like windmills, but used solely to create energy.
Geothermal power draws energy from the Earth. Think of hot springs. They are like little lakes that are warmed by the heat given off from the Earth. Geothermal power is based off of the same idea. We harness that heat and use it to create electricity.
Lets not forget biomass energy. Doesn’t sound like anything Mother Nature provides. Biomass is basically using the trash society creates and turning it into energy. Though it isn’t actually taken from nature, it is definitely renewable. As long as there are people, they will make trash.
There is an endless supply of renewable energy sources for people to use in place of the polluting non-renewable methods being used today. With these alternative forms of energy, society will never run out of these resources, while creating power that is clean. Clean energy creates a cleaner, smog free environment for us and generations to come. Why not use what nature has provided? It’s there for a reason.
